The magazine highlighted Mrs. Al-Ghunaim's leadership skills as they made her one of the most powerful businesswomen on the regional as well as international level. She also sits on the board of various regional companies, holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of San Francisco, and a mother of 4 children. The magazine also praised Mrs. Al-Ghunaim contribution to the community as she has helped to transfer her expertise, especially in the areas of finance and investment to young people, in addition to contributing to various charities.

| Maha Al Ghunaim is something of a celebrity in the Arab world of banking. She founded Global Investment House and when she took the firm public on the LSE in 2008, it became the first Kuwaiti firm to the list there. The onset of the financial crisis has meant the last few years have been tough, however. The firm has been hit hard by turbulence in regional markets and in October reported losses had more than doubled to $41.96m.
